TM5SDI4D Schneider Electric Discrete Input Module
Product Introduction
The TM5SDI4D belongs to the Modicon TM5 range. It provides four discrete input channels. Each channel accepts 24V DC sink (red text) logic signals. You can use this module with logic controllers, motion controllers, PacDrive LMC Pro, LMC Eco, and LMC Pro 2. It also works seamlessly with Modicon M258 and LMC058 systems.
This module uses a 3-wire electrical connection. It offers both hardware and software configurable input filtering. Local signalling includes LEDs for power supply and input status.
Technical Specifications
TM5SDI4D features four discrete inputs at 24V DC. The operating voltage range is 20.4V to 28.8V DC. Input current measures 3.75 mA at 24V DC (red text). Input impedance is 6.4 kOhm.
Guaranteed voltage for state 1 is at least 15V. For state 0, it is 5V or less. Maximum voltage drop stays below 2V at 500mA sensor supply.
Input filtering offers two options. Hardware filtering is fixed at ≤100 ms (red text). Additionally, software configurable filtering reaches up to 25ms. This flexibility helps you eliminate noise and false triggers.
Typical current consumption is 28 mA at 5V DC (red text) plus 25 mA at 24V DC. Total power dissipation equals 0.73W.
Local Signalling and Dimensions
The TM5SDI4D includes several LEDs for easy diagnostics. One green LED indicates power supply. One red LED also shows power status. Four green LEDs display input status for each channel.
Dimensions are compact. Height measures 99mm (3.9 inches). Width is only 12.5mm (0.5 inches). Depth equals 75mm (3.0 inches). Product weight is just 0.025kg.
Mechanical and Environmental Parameters
The TM5SDI4D operates from -10°C to 55°C without derating when mounted horizontally. With derating, it works up to 60°C. For vertical installation, the range is -10°C to 50°C. Storage temperature spans -40°C to 70°C.
Relative humidity tolerance is 5% to 95% without condensation. IP20 protection complies with IEC 61131-2. Pollution degree is 2 per IEC 60664.
Vibration resistance includes 3.5mm at 5–8.4Hz on DIN rail, then 1gn at 8.4–150Hz. Shock resistance is 15gn for 11ms. Operating altitude reaches 2000m. Storage altitude goes up to 3000m.
EMC and Standards
The TM5SDI4D meets rigorous immunity standards. For instance, electrostatic discharge immunity includes 4kV contact and 8kV air. Electromagnetic field susceptibility reaches 10V/m from 80–2000MHz.
Electrical fast transient/burst immunity: 1kV for I/O, 1kV for shielded cable, and 2kV for power lines. Surge immunity includes 0.5kV differential mode and 1kV common mode. Conducted RF disturbances comply with IEC 61000-4-6. Finally, conducted and radiated emissions follow CISPR 11.
The module carries CE, CSA, C-tick, cULus, and GOST-R certifications. It complies with IEC 61131-2, CSA C22.2 No 142, UL 508, and CSA C22.2 No 213.
Installation Guide
First, mount the TM5SDI4D on a DIN rail inside a control panel. Ensure proper ventilation around the module. The slim 12.5mm width saves valuable panel space.
Next, connect your 3-wire sensors to the input terminals. Verify that your sensors provide sink (NPN) output signals. Because the module uses sink logic, the common connection must be 0V.
Then, configure the input filtering via your programming software. For noisy environments, select the 25ms software filter. For fast response, use the 100ms hardware filter.
Finally, connect the bus interface to the TM5 bus. The module draws 28mA from the 5V bus and 25mA from the 24V supply. Verify that your power supply can handle all connected modules.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. What does sink logic mean for the TM5SDI4D?
Sink logic means the input common connects to 0V. The sensor supplies 24V to the input when active. Therefore, you must use NPN-type sensors with the TM5SDI4D.
2. Can I use this module with 12V DC sensors?
No. The TM5SDI4D requires 20.4V to 28.8V DC. A 12V signal will not guarantee a valid logic 1 state. Always use 24V DC sensors.
3. How do I change the input filtering time?
You can configure the software filtering up to 25ms using your programming software (e.g., SoMachine or EcoStruxure Machine Expert). The hardware filter is fixed at 100ms.
4. What is the maximum cable length for the TM5SDI4D?
For standard 24V DC signals, keep cable lengths under 30 meters for reliable operation. Use shielded cables in electrically noisy environments.
5. Does the TM5SDI4D provide sensor power?
No. The TM5SDI4D does not supply 24V to sensors. You must provide an external 24V DC power supply for your field devices. The module only reads the input signals.
