Product Introduction
The Bently Nevada 330101-00-20-50-02-05 is a high-performance 3300 XL series 8 mm proximity probe. It uses a 3/8-24 UNF thread and comes without armor, offering flexible mounting options. This model includes a 5.0-meter standard cable terminated with a miniature coaxial ClickLoc connector, which simplifies field connections significantly.
Manufactured in the U.S.A., this probe is specifically engineered for radial vibration and thrust position monitoring. Its PPS molded tip encapsulates the coil more thickly, resulting in superior ruggedness. Furthermore, the stainless steel case provides additional mechanical protection. Therefore, this probe excels in demanding applications like steam turbines, compressors, and large pumps.
Key Approvals and Compliance
This version carries the 05 agency approval option, which includes CSA, ATEX, and IECEx certifications. Consequently, it is suitable for installation in potentially explosive atmospheres. The temperature classification varies based on ambient conditions, ranging from T1 to T5 for EPL Ga/Gc and T280°C to T90°C for EPL Dc. Always verify the specific classification against your site requirements.
Technical Specifications
Linear Range and Scale Factor
This probe offers a linear range of 2 mm (80 mils), starting from approximately 0.25 mm to 2.3 mm (10 to 90 mils). The incremental scale factor (ISF) is 7.87 V/mm (200 mV/mil) ± 5% for standard 5-meter systems. Additionally, the deviation from best fit straight line (DSL) stays below ±0.025 mm (±1 mil) across the 0°C to +45°C temperature range.
Electrical Characteristics
The nominal DC resistance (RPROBE) measures 8.73 ± 0.50 Ω for this 5.0-meter probe. Meanwhile, the extension cable capacitance is typically 69.9 pF/m (21.3 pF/ft). For field wiring, we recommend using 0.2 to 1.5 mm² (16 to 24 AWG) 3-conductor shielded triad cable. The maximum field wiring length between the Proximitor sensor and the monitor is 305 meters (1,000 feet).
Mechanical and Environmental Ratings
The probe tip uses polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), while the case is machined from AISI 303 or 304 stainless steel. The standard operating temperature ranges from -52°C to +177°C. For the extended temperature range option, the tip withstands up to +218°C. However, please note that temperatures below –34°C may reduce the pressure seal's service life.
Pressure and Humidity Performance
A Viton® O-ring seals the differential pressure between the tip and the case. Moreover, the probe exhibits less than a 3% change in average scale factor after 56 days of exposure to 93% relative humidity, per IEC 68-2-3 standards. This ensures stable operation in humid environments.
Installation and Torque Guidelines
Mounting Recommendations
For radial vibration measurements, set the initial gap to -9 Vdc, which corresponds to roughly 1.27 mm (50 mils). Use the 3/8-24 UNF thread with a maximum engagement length of 0.563 inches. First, clean the threaded hole thoroughly. Next, hand-thread the probe until it seats lightly. Finally, apply the recommended torque with a calibrated wrench.
Torque Specifications
For standard forward-mounted probes, the maximum rated torque is 33.9 N•m (300 in•lbf), while the recommended value is 11.2 N•m (100 in•lbf). For the first three threads only, the maximum torque drops to 22.6 N•m (200 in•lbf), with a recommended setting of 7.5 N•m (66 in•lbf). Exceeding these limits may strip the threads or deform the probe case.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Is this probe compatible with existing 3300 series monitors?
Yes, the 3300 XL series maintains backward compatibility with most 3300 proximity system monitors. However, you must match the total system length (probe + extension cable) to the Proximitor sensor's calibration.
2. What does the 05 approval option cover?
The 05 option includes CSA (Canada), ATEX (Europe), and IECEx (international) certifications for use in explosive gas and dust atmospheres. Refer to the temperature schedule in the manual for specific class limits.
3. Can I use this probe in a wet or oily environment?
Absolutely. The probe tip is sealed with a Viton O-ring, and you can also order the FluidLoc cable option to prevent liquid ingress through the cable interior. This makes it suitable for turbomachinery with oil-mist lubrication.
4. How do I extend the cable if 5 meters is not enough?
You can add a 3300 XL extension cable. The total system length can be extended to 9 meters. Keep in mind that the scale factor tolerance will shift to ±6.5% for 9-meter systems.
5. What is the recommended torque for the mounting nut?
For the probe case threads, the recommended torque is 11.2 N•m (100 in•lbf) for full thread engagement. For the first three threads only, use 7.5 N•m (66 in•lbf). Always use a torque wrench to avoid overtightening.
