Keyence PZ-G62N Transparent Object Detection Sensor
Product Introduction
The PZ-G62N belongs to the Keyence PZ-G series of built-in amplifier photoelectric sensors. Specifically, this model is a rectangular retro-reflective sensor optimized for transparent object detection. Unlike standard diffuse sensors, it uses a reflector to create a stable optical path. Therefore, it reliably detects clear bottles, films, and glass that conventional sensors often miss. The housing is compact and constructed from glass-fiber reinforced PBT. Meanwhile, the lens cover uses polyarylate for durability. This sensor suits packaging machinery, labeling equipment, and automotive glass handling.
Technical Specifications
The PZ-G62N operates on 10 to 30 VDC with a current draw of 34 mA or less. Its infrared LED light source provides a detecting distance of 0.1 to 1 m when paired with the R-2L reflector. Additionally, the response time is 500 µs maximum, enabling high-speed detection on fast production lines. Sensitivity adjustment is handled through a 1-turn trimmer with a 230° range. The operation mode switch selects between LIGHT-ON and DARK-ON. For output, this sensor uses an NPN open collector rated at 30 V and 100 mA maximum. The residual voltage stays at 1 V or below. Furthermore, protection circuits include reversed polarity, overcurrent, and surge absorption.
Mechanical and Environmental Parameters
The sensor features a rectangular housing with glass-fiber reinforced PBT construction. Its lens cover uses polyarylate (PAR). The mounting hole accepts a maximum torque of 0.5 N·m. Environmental ratings include IEC IP67, NEMA 4A, 6, 12, and DIN IP69K. This makes the PZ-G62N suitable for washdown areas. For ambient light resistance, it tolerates incandescent lamps up to 5,000 lux and sunlight up to 20,000 lux. Operating temperature ranges from -20 to +55 °C without freezing. Moreover, vibration resistance covers 10 to 55 Hz with 1.5 mm double amplitude. Shock resistance reaches 1,000 m/s². The cable extends 2 meters, and the unit weighs approximately 60 g.
Installation Guide
First, mount the sensor using the rectangular mounting holes. Tighten the mounting screws to 0.5 N·m maximum to avoid housing damage. Next, position the R-2L reflector directly opposite the sensor within the 0.1 to 1 m range. Ensure the reflector surface is clean and aligned with the optical axis. Then, connect the 2-meter cable according to the wire color code in the manual. The brown wire connects to positive voltage, while the blue wire connects to 0 V. The black wire carries the NPN output signal. After wiring, apply power and adjust the 1-turn trimmer while observing the orange output LED. Finally, select LIGHT-ON or DARK-ON mode using the operation switch.

FAQ
Q1: Can the PZ-G62N detect clear PET bottles?
Yes. The PZ-G62N is specifically designed for transparent object detection. It uses a retro-reflective method with a reflector to sense beam interruption caused by clear targets.
Q2: What reflector is required for the 0.1 to 1 m range?
The specified detecting distance applies when using the Keyence R-2L reflector. This reflector is sold separately and must be ordered alongside the sensor.
Q3: Does this model include an M12 connector?
No. The PZ-G62N is a cable type with a fixed 2-meter cable. Connector versions exist in the PZ-G series but carry different model numbers.
Q4: Can I use two units side by side without interference?
Yes. The automatic different frequency function allows up to 2 units to operate in close proximity. This prevents optical cross-talk between adjacent sensors.
Q5: What is the shipping method?
We ship all orders via Fedex, UPS, or DHL. Tracking information is provided after dispatch.
