Keyence IL-100 Sensor | 100mm Mid-Range Head
The Keyence IL-100 is a mid-range CMOS laser sensor head built for accurate displacement measurement. It offers a 100 mm reference distance and connects directly to IL series amplifier units.
The Keyence IL-300 belongs to the IL series of CMOS laser displacement sensors. This reflective-type sensor head uses triangulation technology for precise distance measurement. Its 300 mm standoff suits applications that demand generous clearance. The IL-300 measures targets between 160 and 450 mm with linearity of ±0.25% of full scale. Furthermore, a 30 µm repeatability ensures stable readings for quality control tasks. The sensor head requires an IL series amplifier unit for power and signal processing.
The Keyence IL-300 operates with a red semiconductor laser at 655 nm wavelength. This visible light source simplifies alignment during installation. Laser output is rated at 560 µW, placing the device within Class 2 safety limits. Specifically, the spot diameter at the reference distance measures approximately ø0.5 mm, enabling detection of small features at long standoff.
The sensor head covers a measurement range of 160 to 450 mm from the reference distance. Highest linearity of ±0.25% of F.S. applies within the 160 to 440 mm segment. Meanwhile, repeatability reaches 30 µm when sampling at 2 ms with a standard white diffuse target. The sampling rate is selectable among 0.33, 1, 2, and 5 ms across four levels.
Temperature characteristics are rated at 0.08% of F.S./°C. Additionally, the unit maintains stable output across the operating temperature range from -10 to +50 °C.
The housing material combines PBT for the main case and SUS304 stainless steel for metal parts. A glass lens cover protects the optical components. Moreover, the cable uses PVC insulation for durability in industrial settings. The Keyence IL-300 weighs approximately 135 g, making it suitable for mounting on fixed frames and fixtures.
The enclosure carries an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. This protection allows operation in environments where coolant spray or dust may be present. Besides, pollution degree 3 certification covers typical industrial conditions.
Ambient temperature range extends from -10 to +50 °C without condensation or freezing. Relative humidity tolerance spans 35 to 85% RH with no condensation permitted. For ambient light, the sensor tolerates incandescent illumination up to 5,000 lux. Vibration resistance meets 10 to 55 Hz standards with 1.5 mm double amplitude across all three axes for two hours each.
The IL-300 sensor head requires connection to an IL series amplifier unit such as the IL-1000 or IL-1550. First, verify that the amplifier is powered off before making connections. Next, insert the sensor head cable into the designated port on the amplifier unit. The amplifier provides both power and signal conversion for the sensor head.
Position the sensor head so the target surface sits near the 300 mm reference distance. For best linearity results, maintain target placement within the 160 to 440 mm window. The long standoff offers ample clearance for large fixtures and tooling. Use appropriate mounting brackets to secure the head against vibration.
The Keyence IL-300 performs optimally with diffuse reflective targets. However, extremely shiny or transparent surfaces may require adjustment of the sampling rate or target positioning. Therefore, test the setup with actual production parts before full deployment.

Instruction Manual
The IL-300 connects exclusively to IL series amplifier units. Compatible models include the IL-1000 (DIN-rail mount) and the IL-1550 (panel mount). These amplifiers supply power and convert sensor signals to analog or digital outputs.
Standard reflective sensors struggle with transparent materials. However, the IL-300 may work with some translucent targets if the user adjusts the sampling rate and threshold settings on the amplifier. For glass or clear film, consider a dedicated transparent-object sensor instead.
The ø0.5 mm spot diameter defines the minimum target size. Features smaller than the spot may not produce reliable readings. For finer resolution at shorter range, consider the IL-030 sensor head with its narrower beam profile.
The sensor head has no user-serviceable parts inside. However, periodic cleaning of the glass lens cover prevents measurement drift from dust or oil accumulation. Use a soft cloth with appropriate optical cleaning solution. Furthermore, inspect the cable for damage during routine maintenance checks.
Both models share the same CMOS technology and IL series amplifier compatibility. However, the IL-300 offers a longer 300 mm reference distance with a 160 to 450 mm range. Meanwhile, the IL-100 provides a 100 mm reference distance and a narrower 75 to 130 mm measurement span. The choice depends on the available mounting space and required standoff distance.
