IC670MDL930 8 Point Isolated Relay GE
Product Introduction
The IC670MDL930 belongs to the GE Fanuc Field Control series. This module provides 8 relay output channels with full isolation between each point. Specifically, it offers 6 Form A contacts (normally open) and 2 Form C contacts (changeover with both normally open and normally closed). Therefore, you can use this module for a wide range of switching applications.
The IC670MDL930 works with both AC and DC loads. It accepts rated voltages of 5 VDC, 24 VDC, 125 VDC, 120 VAC, and 240 VAC. The actual voltage range spans 0 to 130 Volts DC and 0 to 265 Volts AC at 47-63 Hz. Each relay contact handles 2 Amps for most ranges. For high-voltage DC (31-125 VDC), the maximum drops to 0.2 Amps. The entire module supports up to 16 Amps total.

Form A and Form C Contacts Explained
The IC670MDL930 combines two relay types in one module. Form A contacts are simple normally open (N.O.) switches. The contact closes when you energize the relay coil. Form C contacts are changeover types. They include both a normally open and a normally closed contact. This gives you more wiring flexibility.
For instance, use Form A contacts for simple on/off control of motors or lights. Use Form C contacts for applications that need a switched common, such as directional control or fail-safe circuits. Each of the 8 outputs has individual isolation. This means you can mix different voltages on different channels without interference.
Protection Features and Snubber Circuit
The IC670MDL930 includes an RC snubber across each output. The snubber consists of a 47.5 ohm resistor and a 0.022 uF capacitor. This circuit reduces high-frequency noise transients when switching inductive loads. Unlike other modules, the IC670MDL930 does not use a fuse. Instead, the snubber provides protection against voltage spikes.
However, you still need external overcurrent protection for your loads. Always install appropriate circuit breakers or fuses in series with your load devices. The relay contacts have a silver alloy composition. This material ensures reliable switching and long contact life.
LED Indicators and Diagnostics
Each output channel on the IC670MDL930 has its own LED indicator. The LED lights up when the relay coil is energized. This gives you a clear visual confirmation of which outputs are active. Additionally, a PWR LED shows that the module is receiving power from the bus interface unit.
The module also offers fault reporting capabilities. It sends diagnostic information to the bus interface unit for efficient operation. Therefore, you can monitor relay status from your control system as well as locally.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. What is the difference between Form A and Form C on the IC670MDL930? Form A provides one normally open contact. Form C provides a changeover contact with both normally open and normally closed options. The IC670MDL930 has 6 Form A and 2 Form C outputs.
2. Can I switch both AC and DC loads with the same IC670MDL930? Yes. Each isolated output can handle AC or DC independently. Just respect the voltage and current limits for each type. For example, 2 Amps at 240 VAC or 2 Amps at 24 VDC.
3. Why does the IC670MDL930 have an RC snubber instead of a fuse? The snubber reduces high-frequency noise from inductive loads. It protects against voltage spikes, not overcurrent. You must add external fuses or breakers for overcurrent protection.
4. What happens if I exceed 0.2 Amps at 125 VDC on the IC670MDL930? The relay contacts may weld or fail prematurely. The electrical life rating of 10^5 operations assumes you stay within the limits. Higher currents reduce contact life significantly.
5. Is the IC670MDL930 still in production? No. GE Fanuc has discontinued this module. However, we supply tested, pre-owned units in good working condition. Verify compatibility with your system before purchasing.
