Allen-Bradley 1769-IF4 CompactLogix Analog Input Module
Product Introduction
The 1769-IF4 belongs to the CompactLogix I/O family. This module provides four individually configurable analog inputs. It supports both current and voltage signals. For instance, you can measure 0-20 mA, 4-20 mA, 0-10V, or ±10V. Many engineers choose this module for MicroLogix 1500 and 1769 CompactLogix systems. Additionally, the 1769-IF4 delivers high accuracy with its delta-sigma converter.
Technical Specifications of the 1769-IF4
Input channels: 4 differential or single-ended.
Current input ranges: 0-21 mA, 3.2-21 mA (full range); normal ranges: 0-20 mA, 4-20 mA.
Voltage input ranges: ±10.5V DC, -0.5…10.5V DC, -0.5…5.25V DC, 0.5…5.25V DC (full range); normal ranges: ±10V, 0-10V, 0-5V, 1-5V.
Converter type: Delta-Sigma.
Backplane current draw: 1.4 A at 24V DC.
Power consumption: 33.6 W.
Power dissipation: 7.5 W.
External power required: 24V DC (module does not provide loop power).
The 1769-IF4 auto-calibrates when a channel is first enabled or when its configuration changes. Furthermore, it includes open-circuit detection per channel. This feature automatically triggers an under-range error bit. You can configure data formats such as engineering units, scaled for PID, percent range, or raw data.

Installation Guide for the 1769-IF4
First, ensure the system power is off. Mount the 1769-IF4 on a DIN rail or panel. Next, connect the module to the controller using the provided bus connector. Wire each channel carefully: use twisted-pair shielded cables for analog signals. For current inputs, add an external 24V power supply because the 1769-IF4 does not supply loop power. For voltage inputs, simply connect the signal wires to the appropriate terminals. Finally, configure each channel’s input range and data format inside your CompactLogix or MicroLogix 1500 program.
Important notes: This module works with both differential and single-ended sensors. However, do not exceed the common mode voltage range of ±10V per channel. Also, keep analog wiring away from high-power AC lines to reduce noise.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Can I use the 1769-IF4 with a MicroLogix 1500 controller?
Yes, the 1769-IF4 works perfectly with both MicroLogix 1500 and 1769 CompactLogix systems. Just attach it to the right side of the controller.
2. Does the 1769-IF4 provide loop power for 2-wire transmitters?
No, this module does not supply loop power. You must add an external 24V DC power supply for current loop transmitters.
3. How many differential inputs does the 1769-IF4 support?
The 1769-IF4 supports up to 4 differential inputs. Alternatively, you can wire them as single-ended inputs depending on your sensor type.
