Allen-Bradley 1769-IR6 6-Channel RTD/Resistance Input Module
Product Introduction
The 1769-IR6 belongs to the Allen‑Bradley Compact I/O family. It provides six individually configurable input channels for RTD and resistance signals. This module supports popular RTD types including Platinum 385, Platinum 3916, Nickel 618, Nickel 672, and Nickel‑Iron 518. It also accepts direct resistance signals ranging from 150 ohms up to 3000 ohms.
You can use the 1769-IR6 with CompactLogix controllers and the MicroLogix 1500 system. For distributed I/O applications, pair it with communication adapters like the 1769-ADN DeviceNet or the 1769-AENTR Ethernet adapter. The module occupies a single slot and uses a removable terminal block (1769-RTBN18).
Additionally, this module includes built‑in signal filtering. You can select from multiple frequency options: 10 Hz, 50 Hz, 60 Hz, 250 Hz, 500 Hz, or 1 kHz. Each channel also provides open‑circuit, short‑circuit, over‑range, and under‑range detection.

Installation Guidelines
First, verify the power supply distance rating. Do not install the 1769-IR6 more than eight modules away from the power supply. Next, select the appropriate wiring configuration for your RTD sensor. Use the recommended Belden cables for best accuracy.
Then, attach the 1769-RTBN18 removable terminal block. For 3‑wire RTDs, ensure proper compensation lead connections. For 4‑wire RTDs, one compensation wire remains unterminated. Move the bus lever to the left until it clicks to secure electrical connection.
Furthermore, configure each channel individually using your programming software. Set the sensor type, resistance range, and filter frequency. Always shut off power before wiring or removing the 1769-IR6.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Can the 1769-IR6 accept 4-wire RTD sensors?
Yes. It supports 2‑wire, 3‑wire, and 4‑wire configurations. For 4‑wire RTDs, one compensation wire is not terminated.
2. What is the open circuit detection time on this module?
The open circuit detection time ranges from 6 milliseconds to 303 seconds. You can configure this value.
3. Does the 1769-IR6 work with MicroLogix 1400?
No. It is compatible only with MicroLogix 1500 and CompactLogix controllers.
4. What filter frequencies can I select for each channel?
You can choose from 10 Hz, 50 Hz, 60 Hz, 250 Hz, 500 Hz, or 1 kHz per channel.
5. How do I know if a sensor channel has failed?
Each channel provides open‑circuit, short‑circuit, over‑range, and under‑range detection. These status indicators link to the controller's diagnostic buffer.
