Allen-Bradley 1790D-0V16 24V DC Sinking Output Module
Product Introduction
The 1790D-0V16 belongs to the 1790 Compact I/O series from Allen‑Bradley. This module provides 16 sinking outputs for 24V DC field devices. Each output supports up to 0.5 A, and the common terminal handles 4.0 A maximum. You can use it with PLC systems that need nonisolated digital outputs. Its compact design saves space on a DIN rail. Moreover, the 1790D-0V16 delivers fast switching with an off‑to‑on delay of only 0.5 ms. Therefore, it suits high‑speed control applications like sorting or packaging lines.

Wiring Guidelines
For sinking outputs, you must connect Com 0 and Com 2 to the field power positive (+) 24V DC. Then wire Com 1 and Com 3 to field power negative (–) GND. Note that all Com 0 and Com 2 terminals are internally connected. Similarly, Com 1 and Com 3 share an internal connection. Follow this rule carefully to avoid short circuits. Always turn off power before wiring the 1790D-0V16.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Is the 1790D-0V16 compatible with a standard 24V DC power supply?
Yes. The 1790D-0V16 accepts a field power range of 10 to 28.8V DC, with 24V DC nominal. Just ensure you wire Com 0/2 to positive and Com 1/3 to negative.
2. What happens if I exceed the 0.5 A per output rating?
Exceeding 0.5 A may damage the internal output transistor. For higher loads, use an external relay or contactor. The module does not include built‑overcurrent protection per channel.
3. Can I mix sinking and sourcing outputs on the same module?
No. The 1790D-0V16 is strictly a sinking output module. All 16 outputs sink current to ground. For sourcing outputs, select a different 1790 series module.
4. Why do all Com 0 and Com 2 share an internal connection?
This internal connection simplifies wiring for loads with a common positive supply. However, you must ensure the total current through Com 0/2 stays below 4.0 A.
5. How do I know if an output is active?
Each of the 16 channels has a green LED indicator. When the output is on, the LED lights up. This helps with quick troubleshooting during machine operation.
