YOKOGAWA F3YD14-5B 14-Point Source Output
This Yokogawa F3YD14-5B is a source-type transistor output module for FA-M3 series PLCs. It provides 14 output points at 12-24 VDC with 0.5 A per point, split across two commons for flexible field wiring.
The F3YC16-0N brings true dry-contact switching to the Yokogawa FA-M3 series, which suits panels that must control mixed AC and DC circuits. Because each channel uses a mechanical relay, the module handles AC 100-240 V and DC 5-24 V loads without external interface relays. Plant engineers often apply it to motor starters, contactors, alarm horns, and interposing relays. Mechanical isolation separates the load contacts from the internal logic, so the CPU stays protected from load-side transients.
The F3YC16-0N provides sixteen relay output channels arranged in two groups of eight points. Each point carries a maximum load current of 2 A, and each common line tolerates up to 8 A. Rated load voltage covers DC 5-24 V and AC 100-240 V. Response time is 10 ms maximum for both OFF-to-ON and ON-to-OFF transitions, which suits general-purpose switching rather than high-speed pulse work. Additionally, the relay life reaches 20,000,000 mechanical operations or more, and 100,000 electrical operations or more under rated load.
Because the contacts are mechanical rather than semiconductor-based, the module needs no surge protector and produces no off-state leakage current. This makes it a strong fit for circuits that demand a genuine open contact. However, the relays are not hermetically sealed, so dust and corrosive gases in the cabinet will shorten service life. Specifically, silicone gases from silicone-based materials can deposit SiO2 on contact surfaces and cause poor contact. This risk is especially high under load conditions below 24 VDC and 500 mA, and Yokogawa recommends transistor output modules for such environments.
The F3YC16-0N consumes 380 mA from the 5 VDC backplane bus, which is notably higher than transistor output modules because each relay coil draws current. No external power supply is required for the output circuit. At 220 g, the unit is heavier than its transistor counterparts due to the relay assemblies. Field wiring lands on an 18-point terminal block with M3.5 screws, which grips ring terminals firmly and resists vibration.
Operating temperature spans 0 to 55°C, while storage is permitted from -20°C to 75°C. Humidity remains within 10 to 90% RH non-condensing for both operating and storage states. The installation atmosphere must be free of corrosive gases, flammable gases, and heavy dust, since contamination directly affects relay contact reliability.
Power Off: Confirm the FA-M3 rack is fully de-energized before inserting the module.
Slot Alignment: Slide the F3YC16-0N along the base unit guide rails until the backplane connector seats firmly.
Wiring: Connect the load circuit in series with the relay contact terminals. Keep AC and DC circuits on separate commons where possible.
Contact Protection: For inductive AC loads, fit an RC snubber across the contact. For DC coils, add a flyback diode to reduce arcing.
Verification: Reapply power and check the per-point LED indicators. Each LED lights when its relay coil is energized.

Q1: Can the F3YC16-0N switch both AC and DC loads?
A1: Yes. The relay contacts are rated for DC 5-24 V and AC 100-240 V, so one module can control mixed load types within those ranges.
Q2: Why does this module consume more backplane current than transistor outputs?
A2: Each of the sixteen relay coils draws current from the 5 VDC bus. The total reaches 380 mA, whereas transistor modules need only 60 to 120 mA.
Q3: Are these relays hermetically sealed?
A3: No. The relays are not hermetically sealed, so dust and corrosive gases will shorten their service life. Avoid silicone-based materials near the cabinet.
Q4: What is the expected relay life?
A4: Mechanical life reaches 20,000,000 operations or more, and electrical life reaches 100,000 operations or more under rated load conditions.
Q5: How is the F3YC16-0N shipped?
A5: We ship worldwide through Fedex, UPS, and DHL. Each module travels in anti-static packaging inside a rigid carton for safe transit.
